Opening weekend – part 1

So the opening weekend is now over, and its been an exciting few days….

Wednesday 01 June:

Wednesday evening arrived and so did our guests Richard Billingham, Greg Hobson, Nelli Palomaki and Jocelyn Allen. At 6pm a large crowd gathered in Market Square to celebrate the opening of the 2011 Guernsey Photography Festival.  Festival director Jean-Christophe Godet and Sir Geoffrey Rowland, the Bailiff of Guernsey, started the evening with inspiring words before the crowd were invited to explore the Tony-Ray Jones and Richard Billingham exhibitions in Market Square.

The Caravan Gallery has been attracting lots of attention in Market Square. Pop in and say hello, and if you like you can leave a suggestion where they should photograph next in Guernsey. © Carl Symes 2011.

Thursday 02nd June:

On Thursday we welcomed more of our guests to the island and all of the exhibitions opened to the public.  Our volunteers did a fantastic job of transforming many unused shops in St Peter Port into exhibition venues and it was great to see the result being enjoyed by so many people. Thursday evening came and we were at the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts for an evening with Richard Billingham, whose work is on show in the inner market street.
